Lostartifax was starting in 2022 by Steve Levine, a semi-retired, Silicon-Valley software technology manager. After living and working for 20 years on the west coast, but returning to Maine every summer, we decided to settle down in rural Maine. We live on 4 acres next to a nice pond with Loons, where we can paddle around in serene waters with no smog, noise or any kind of discernible pollution. After a few years of ‘moving in’, I decided to embark on a revival of art-deco sculptures, some of which only exist in photos and others still in place on the buildings that were built in the early 20th century.
To accomplish this, I had to acquire a good deal of equipment and knowledge in order to produce castings that were honorable to the original. Since we had not visited the sites of the sculptures, we relied on photos taken by many others as the model for our digital sculpting.
Yes, we digitally sculpt a bas-relief plaque in the computer and eventually 3D print what the end-result will look like exactly in a resin solid master.
